Football Season Review

№6: Ipswich Town

Ipswich finished the season in the worst possible way as they were beaten in the play-offs by bitter rivals Norwich. It was a hard way to lose but should not detract from a season where the Tractor Boys really revived their fortunes. Mick McCarthy helped his side to the play-offs with a fine management of the season able to get the best out of his men. He focused on a solid 4-4-2 system and Ipswich were able to fire thanks to an excellent home record that saw them win 15 times at Portman Road although just seven wins away from home threatened to cost them. A total of 72 league goals this season proved to be vital with Daryl Murphy a big success story with 27 goals and even though David McGoldrick missed a large section of the season through injury, Freddie Sears came in midway through and forged a decent partnership with Murphy. In the end they lacked the class in other areas of the pitch but McCarthy will be exceptionally pleased with this campaign.

Player of the Season: Daryl Murphy
