Football Season Review

№13: Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday can be fairly happy with a season that saw them briefly flirt with the play-off spots and one that never saw them come close to the drop zone. Stuart Gray's side showed steady improvement on the recent campaign and can be particularly pleased with their away form. Wednesday won nine times on their travels and their defence including new signing keeper Keiren Westwood were particularly impressive. Just 49 league goals were conceded across the whole season. However Wednesday were exceptionally poor at home with just five wins and 11 draws in the end costing them a chance of making the play-offs. Lack of goals were the big problem with only 43 in the entire campaign and a paltry 16 coming at Hillsborough, a ground that saw a total of only 36 goals in the entire campaign. Atdhe Nuhiu was top scorer with 11 but Gray knows attack is the main area for improvement over the summer and there may be funds thanks to a takeover.
