Football Season Review

№23: Wigan Athletic

This was quite frankly a shocker of a season for Wigan Athletic. They failed to impress under German Uwe Rosler earlier in the campaign and he was eventually sacked with Malky Mackay controversially taking over. But the Scot could not manage a single home win in his reign and he was eventually sacked with Steven Caldwell taking charge for the remaining games. Survival became too big of an ask and the Latics were relegated to the third tier of English football just two years on from their drop from the Premier League. That remarkably bad home form - just three victories all season at the DW Stadium - ultimately proved costly but lack of goals was also a big issue. Just 39 were scored all season and only 18 at home and top scorer was James McClean with just six goals. Caldwell desperately needs to sort out the attack if he is to have any chance at all of turning around his side's fortunes next term in League One.
