Football Season Review

№23: Bolton Wanderers

A dreadful season for Bolton which was marred by off the field issues. Things came to a head when the players went on strike causing their penultimate game against Brentford to be postponed (Brentford were later awarded victory). They have now entered administration and will be docked 12 points when they return to League One. With doubts over the ownership continuing it promises to be a tough campaign next season. The first stage of the season was actually relatively promising with Wanderers remaining in a lower mid-table spot. But things started to go wrong and with a shortage of goals and lack of genuine class in the side, relegation appeared to be a certainty as early as February. There is so much uncertainty over the next few months with players set to depart, doubt over Phil Parkinson's future, ownership and whether they may be docked even more points than they have been already. Bolton really are in a mess at the moment and it is difficult to give them much in the way of optimism. Gary O'Neil's gritty displays in the middle of the park earned him Bolton's player of the year award.
