Football Season Review

№3: Leeds United

Leeds missed out on a Premier League return after they were beaten in the play-off semi-final stage by Derby. They appeared to be on course for the top flight until they lost their way in the last four games. The Whites occupied 2nd before they won just one point in the final four matches. They then had a 2-0 aggregate lead over Derby with an hour to go and ended up losing. Managed brilliantly by Marcelo Bielsa who brought some wacky ways to English football including spying on other teams. They did not add much in terms of quality to their squad, they just relied on that exceptional managerial talent. There are rumours that Bielsa could now leave the club which will be a huge shame if true given how he worked wonders with his squad. Leeds were not helped by injuries to important players such as Kemar Roofe, Barry Douglas and Ezgjan Alioski in the business end of the campaign. Player of the season was Pablo Hernandez while Mat Klich and Kalvin Phillips also impressed. Various youngsters such as Jack Clarke also came of age.
