Football Season Review

№9: Nottingham Forest

It was the same old story for Nottingham Forest. They offered plenty of promise early in the season after spending big last summer. Aitor Karanka clearly had a plan and was well liked by players and fans alike. However a bad run saw Forest's owners react quickly, sacking Karanka and bringing in former player Martin O'Neill. O'Neill has yet to really impress at the City Ground and they finished a disappointing 9th. Joao Carvalho was a big disappointment after a big money signing while with the exception of Lewis Grabban other arrivals did not deliver either. Grabban scored 17 times but found the net few times in 2019 thanks to a niggling injury that hindered his progress. There were positives for Forest though, in particular in the shape of their young players. Joe Lolley was player of the season while Matt Cash and Ryan Yates showed signs of promise too. Forest were also excellent at their famous City Ground with 13 wins, but their away form was once again disappointing with only four victories. There will be big pressure for O'Neill to deliver next season.

Player of the Season: Joe Lolley
