Football Season Review

№22: Rotherham United

Rotherham were never expected to survive but gave it a good go as their one-season stay back in the Championship came to an end. The Millers had only scraped through in the play-offs last term and really lacked a quality about them. They did though show great endeavour in every game they played combined with some excellent management by Paul Warne. Will Vaulks' long throws were a real attacking weapon for Rotherham and caused plenty of teams difficulties. Many opposition managers were also critical of this approach. Semi Ajayi was another decent performer turning from defender to central midfielder with great effect. Rotherham did not change their side around too much, having few options and a very small squad. In the end they really lacked resources to mount a serious survival bid. A poor away record of just one win all season also did for the Millers. It is difficult to see them bouncing straight back up without significant investment but it is unlikely they will lose too many of their players either.
