Football Season Review

№11: Brentford

This was a season of what might have been for Brentford. They looked decent enough early on before Dean Smith left for the manager's job at Aston Villa. That soon changed the dynamic as Thomas Frank was given the task of replacing him. Frank really took his time to settle into the No.1 role with a miserable start that saw the Bees well down the table and out of contention for the top six at an early stage. They at least recovered later in the campaign and offered encouragement for the next campaign. Frank appears to have settled on a wing back system. Neal Maupay had an impressive campaign in attack with 28 goals scored. Yet the West Londoners now have a bit of a reputation as a selling club and will need to keep hold of him and their other good players. Additionally they probably need a few more bodies in over the summer if they are to be contenders for a promotion bid next term in what is likely to be their final season at their famous old Griffin Park ground, a ground where they had the third best home record in the division this term.

Player of the Season: Neal Maupay
