Football Season Review

№24: Ipswich Town

A miserable campaign for Ipswich from start to finish and very difficult for them to take any positives whatsoever. Mick McCarthy left last summer after a number of years at Portman Road and was replaced by Paul Hurst. Hurst completely changed his side around bringing in several players from League One and especially his former club Shrewsbury. Hurst's appointment simply did not work and he was gone early on in the season with the Tractor Boys rock bottom. Paul Lambert came in as replacement and could not turn the tide. Ipswich had a crippling injury list all season with many sidelined players but their lack of continuity brought by McCarthy and a lack of genuine quality players did for them. They will be expected to bounce straight back but it certainly will not be easy. They lack real characters and the quality to compete at the second tier of English football. Keeper Bartosz Bialkowski had been one of the best players in the Championship in recent years but the keeper lost his confidence and his place in this campaign with Dean Gerken coming in for a fair chunk.
